Exercise is hard. It’s especially hard when you’ve fallen off the wagon and started to move in the opposite direction of your goals. But, you’re not alone! It’s April: Resolutions are falling off just as summer is peeking around the corner. Now is not the time to give up on your exercise goals, sometimes you simply just don’t feel like exercising.

Well, here at Chuze, we have a few tricks up our sleeves!

We know attending fitness classes at your local gym isn’t how you want to be active 100% of the time. So,what if I told you that you could exercise without even knowing that you were burning calories? Love it, right? Well, maybe you’ll know you’re exercising, but we’ve compiled a list of activities that will have you feeling like you’re having fun while exercising, so it feels less like work and more like enjoying life!

1 | Hike or Walk With a Friend

It’s a simple suggestion, but a wonderful one! The next time you meet up with your best friend, opt for nature instead of dinner or drinks. If you are in Southern California, Denver or Tucson there is no end to hiking trails and outdoor activities in sight.

Hiking is a great cardiovascular exercise while also building muscle mass. Not only that, but opting for a hike can reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease, various cancers, and depression. Hiking can also reduce anxiety and even lower your blood pressure!

New to hiking? Start small! Try a one-mile trail that is fairly flat, and move up to rough terrains and longer hikes. No one said you need to hike Yosemite in your first year. Take. It. Slow.

In one hour, the average person burns 440 calories per hour hiking.

2 | Join a Sports Club

Being active can be fun. When I moved to Southern California five years ago, I sought out a place where I could meet friends and be active. That place ended up being Vavi. Vavi is a sport and social club in Southern California that gets like-minded individuals out on the playing field and cultivates lasting friendships through sport.

In clubs like Vavi, you can join various sports leagues from volleyball to kickball at different levels (for me, I joined the amateur level). Sometimes the best workout is when you are simply playing a game with your friends!

Chances are that your town has something similar. Just type “Sport and social leagues in [your town]” in Google, and you will be well on your way to new friends and new hobbies!

Can’t find a league? Ask five of your friends to meet you at the park and play a game of basketball (or your favorite sport) on your own! This pick-up game might just become the thing that you look forward to every week.

The average person burns 204 calories in just 30 minutes of playing basketball!

3 | Try a Class

Yes, this step requires you to get to the gym. But, what better way to make new friends, or hang out with old friends than shaking your booty to some Zumba, or sweating your way through Team Training?

We aren’t going to lie, this will feel like a workout, but the fun you have will keep you coming back for more! Our classes are so fun, that many of them have a line out the door a half hour before they even start. Not only that, but we have heard countless stories of people meeting their best friend inside of our classroom walls.

So, check out your local gym’s class schedule and find one that suits you. Give whichever class you choose at least three chances. We recommend three or more chances so that you can get used to the movement and the initial shock of learning something new.

The average person will burn 350-650 calories in a one-hour Zumba class.

4 | Dance It Out

Top three choices not your cup of tea? Are you more of a homebody? Well, grab your favorite Spotify playlist and get to groovin’. Dancing can be done anywhere—whether that’s in your living room or at the grocery store (though, dancing in the aisles with glass jars is not recommended)—and anybody, at most any age, can dance!

This exercise will aid in muscle strength, toning, cardiovascular strength, and weight loss. Dancing can also improve balance and help you build stronger bones. Not only that, but you may even find yourself becoming more confident overall!

I personally like to turn up my tunes and clean my house (double whammy!), or I simply look up dance tutorials on YouTube and embarrass myself in front of my family. If it gets you moving, you are winning at crushing your calories. So, grab a partner, a group of friends, or go it alone—no matter how or where you choose to do it, just dance!

By twisting the night away, the average person burns 443 calories per hour!

5 | Play

Many people think that they don’t have time to work out because they need to spend time with their children or their pets. However, getting out to the playground or the dog park can do wonders for your physique! And, since you will be taking time as a family (or fur family) to be active, it will also benefit your pets and your children.

When children play outside with their older siblings, parents, aunts, grandparents and so on, their social skills improve; they improve coordination, eyesight, attention span and they get much-needed vitamin D.

See? You do have time to be active by playing with your children or pets. This exercise will benefit everyone who joins in!

The takeaway? Play with your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, cats, dogs, horses… you get the idea: Just play!

The average person will burn 238 calories per hour by running around and playing with their children.
