Here at Chuze Thornton, we’re big fans of good food, and when it comes to Thornton, Colorado restaurants, there is one to represent nearly every cuisine. From sushi to soul food and breakfast to BBQ, there is a menu to please every appetite. These top ten restaurants don’t necessarily fall into the “health food” category, but fortunately, their menus offer tasty alternatives to stay healthy while dining out!

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

If you’re craving comfort food options like chicken pot pie or hickory smoked ribs, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen makes all of their entrees homemade. To stick to the lighter side, go with diner favorites like the Grilled Baja Chicken with freshly made pico or Citrus Soy Salmon served with a side of steamed broccoli and rice. Restaurant guests appreciate the extensive menu, friendly service, and lively, casual atmosphere.

The Egg and I

The aptly-named breakfast restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. However, with a name like The Egg and I, it seems only appropriate to order one of their many egg-based dishes. From omelets to Benedicts and scrambles to sandwiches, meals are better when you add an egg. A protein-rich breakfast is a great way to fuel up before hitting the gym for a sweat sesh. In addition to Thornton, there are also locations in Broomfield and Arvada.

United Chinese Restaurant & Sushi

Family-owned and operated since 1993, United Chinese Restaurant & Sushi is run by husband-and-wife team Chef Jimmy and Melissa. In 2015, they moved their operation from Broomfield to Thornton. They have main Chinese staples on the menu including Chicken with Green Beans and Sesame Beef. Additionally, they have Thai curries and noodles as well. Or, if you’re in the mood for made-to-order sushi, there are plenty of specialty rolls and sashimi options. Keep it healthy by skipping the sauce-heavy dishes.

Bachir’s Soul Food

The food (and 5-star reviews) speaks for itself at this low-key, tucked away restaurant. The fried chicken platter comes with collard greens, mac and cheese, and cornbread. Bachir’s is the place to go if you’re looking for a stick-to-your-ribs meal made with flavors from the South. Split a meal or take half your portion home to indulge in moderation. Healthy habits don’t have to include deprivation.

Today Hawaii BBQ

The menu is simple, but it hits the spot when you’re craving a taste of Hawaii. Order one of their meat plates with options like chicken katsu, kalua pork, ribs, or chicken teriyaki. All plates come with macaroni salad, rice, side salad, and egg drop soup. The service is quick and friendly, and the food is flavorful and filling. Order a boba tea or smoothie as a treat to go.

Root Down Denver

Root Down only uses seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients on its menu. Their menu can be made to accommodate gluten-free or vegan diets. For brunch options, there are a few, eclectic favorites like the Zucchini Bread French Toast or Huevos Rancheros. Dinner fare has selections like Three Chile Chicken, Colorado Lamb Sliders, and whatever bounty of vegetables are in season. Their focus and quality and making delicious food with simple ingredients are why this restaurant is a mainstay in the community.

CInzzetti’s

Even at an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet, you can choose options that align with a healthy way of eating.

Skip the fried appetizers and heavy cream sauce dishes like Fettuccine Alfredo. Instead, stick to grilled fish or chicken, thin crust veggie pizzas, and freshly made (non-boring) salads. There Greek Orzo Pasta, Fresh Grilled Vegetable Caprese, and Fresh Beet Salad to name a few. Also, opt to fill a smaller plate to stick with portion control.

Vietnamese Cafe

This restaurant is a favorite among many due to their extensive menu of flavorful options. Their grilled meat platters are under $10 and come with rice, cucumbers, and tomatoes. There are also several delicious soups, salads, and stir-frys. They can make your dish gluten-free upon request, and you can substitute tofu or go meatless when choosing any dish.

El Mirador Mexican Restaurant

Get your Mexican food fix at this neighborhood staple known for its daily lunch specials. Fan favorites include the carnitas plate and fajitas. There are also meatless options like veggie quesadillas and tacos de Papas (made with potatoes). Though technically in Northglenn, it doesn’t stop people from Thornton from stopping by El Mirador when the craving hits.
