Black History Conversations with Chelsia and Corey

In celebration of Black History Month, Chuze Fitness’ very own Chelsia Janise and Corey McCloskey sat down for a real conversation about the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and what Black History Month means to them. We invite you into their conversation.

A Peek into the Conversation

What is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Chuze Fitness?

Corey: “We’re about people and caring about people and serving others. Our (DEI) Roundtables find better ways that we can facilitate equity”.

Chelsia: “We’ve just been really dedicated to doing the work and finding out what that work is along the way, which has been a really cool experience for all of us”.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Chelsia: “I have a background in anthropology which is really the study of humans, so for me, Black history is American history. It’s history being made every single day but it’s usually a topic that isn’t discussed in the fullness that it should be discussed”.

Corey: “Black History Month gives me a beacon of hope, a beacon of light to know that we can do it. It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone to realize the things that have gone on in the past. We can’t rewrite the past, all we can do is learn from it”.
