Denver is a city surrounded by nature. Our environment leads to the general desire to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Who can blame us? With the Rockies close by and numerous lakes, trails, and urban parks to choose from, there are plenty of places where we can bask in the sunshine and breathe in fresh air. At our Denver gym located at South Monaco, we recommend that you alternate your regular sweat sessions at the gym with any or all of these outdoor activities.

Biking In and Around the City

Biking is one of the best ways to get around Denver. There are 85 miles of bike trails and nearly 90 bike-sharing stations scattered through the city. Grab a friend or ride solo; make it leisurely or more adventurous and see the city by bike. If you’re feeling extra bold, then sign up for a road race and make it a competition. Denver Century Ride, Mount Evans Hill Climb, and the Courage Classic are all cyclist favorites that have race lengths from 5 to 50 miles and beyond.

Kayaking at Confluence Park

When summer temps arrive, what better way to stay cool and in shape than by kayaking? No gear? No problem. Confluence Kayaks provides everything you need to get started: rentals, lessons, and even river trips. Kayaking is an activity where no experience is required to get started, which means all levels are encouraged to enjoy. Work your arms and core while having fun on the water.

Summer isn’t the only season when outdoor activity abounds. People flock from near and far to Denver, as well as the surrounding communities come snow season. Snowboarding and skiing are both favored Colorado activities, and there are varying levels to meet the needs of everyone. It’s easy to spend a whole day hitting the slopes. Then, a soak in the hot tub is the perfect way to wind down.

Fly fishing takes a particular skill which can be taught by dedicated anglers who live to fish. Take a class, join a fishing trip, or practice your skills at one of Denver’s local fly fishing company. It’s a unique way to stay active outdoors and possibly take up a new hobby. You might be surprised at how much patience and arm strength casting a line over and over requires.
