The Chuze Fitness story all began with a salad bar in Houston in 1978.
Longtime friends Ray and Charles opened a buffet-style restaurant with the aim to deliver an over-the-top customer service experience. They knocked it out of the park and grew their business across several states until they sold it in the mid-90s. High-quality hospitality was the key to their business success. When they had the opportunity to go into business with their sons with that extraordinary customer service in mind, they knew they were onto something…
A Family Affair
The very first Chuze board meetings took place on surfboards in the Pacific.
Our sunny San Diego roots are a big part of who we are! Having moved from Houston, childhood friends Nick and Cory (sons of Ray and Charles), with brother-in-law Kris, came together to make dreams of an inclusive, welcoming gym that encapsulates the sunshine and warmth of the place they call home come true. They were inspired and encouraged by their fathers’ vision of over-the-top customer service. Together, the families saw a big opportunity in the fitness industry to do it better…

The very first Chuze Fitness opened in Carlsbad in 2008, just north of San Diego, surrounded by fresh ocean air and people looking for a gym that was affordable and welcoming.
